Hotel Options

One of Tokyo’s most popular entertainment districts plays host to a collection of Edo-period erotic art.

What to expect

Throughout the Edo Period, Shunga erotic art exploded in popularity, and at the forefront of the scene were artists such as Hishikawa Moronobu, Kitagawa Utamaro, and Katsushika Hokusai. This exhibition brings together these artists’ most representative pieces from the collection of Mitsuru Uragami, a world-leading art dealer, connoisseur of Asian antiques, and collector of Hokusai Manga.

Around 100 pieces will be on display throughout Shinjuku Kabukicho Noh Stage, utilizing the full breadth of the venue from the auditorium and main stage to the backstage area and dressing room. Curating the exhibition is Yasutaka Hayashi from artist collective Chim-Pom.
