Ueno Summer Festival

The Ueno Natsu Matsuri (Summer Festival) consists of various events and festivities over an approximately month-long period beginning in mid-July.

What happens?

The festival includes a paper lantern-floating festival (July 17 in 2025), an antique market, and various musical and dance performances. There will also be a festival atmosphere with dancing and stalls from each Friday to Sunday (2 p.m. to 8 p.m.) during the event period.

Schedule 2025

Over the weekends during the event period, there will be plenty of food and game stalls. Here are some other highlights of the Ueno Summer Festival:

• Wadaiko Show: A taiko group will perform a drum show on July 26 and 27 from 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. near Shinobazu Pond.
• Paper Lantern Festival: Lanterns will be floated on Shinobazu Pond from 7 p.m. on July 17.
• Ice sculptures: See artists carve creations out of ice on July 22 at 2 p.m. at Ueno Park Water Music Hall.
• Antique Market: There will be vendors selling unique goods from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. throughout the event.
• Wind chimes: 3,000 wind chimes will take over Hasumi Deck near Shinobazu Pond throughout the event period.
