The Midtown illumination is incredibly popular in the days leading up to Christmas (especially the 24th) with couples bringing a compulsory bottle of champers with them. If you want to avoid potential crowds, you should go early.

What happens?

Every year, something new is added or changed to the program.

This year’s event is themed “Your Christmas Story”. This year’s main illumination in Midtown Garden changes as you walk through it, starting cool and urban before warming into classic Christmas lights and finishing with a splash of color. Every few minutes, soap bubbles rise into the air and snow drifts down.

The iconic fir tree returns, decked out in gold, blue, red and purple lights, and the entrance walkway transforms into a “Path of Light” that keeps sparkling until late February. Indoors, you’ll find the much-loved Santa Tree, made up of around 1,600 mini Santas busy with Christmas prep, and a small market selling ornaments, handmade wooden figures and other festive bits.

Next door, take your chance on the ice with the Midtown Ice Rink.
